This morning I awoke to phone call, but I did not recognize the number. It was over our normal ten digits, so I knew it was international, then I realized the 233 from Ghana. When I first arrived home from Ghana last February I kept getting phone calls from several friends that I had made over there. It was fun for the first couple of times, then I thought about how expensive this must be costing- yikes!
My favorite phone call was from a guide in Mole National Park, Yeboah Andrews, who I had befriended when my class traveled north. One day when I was walking across the middle of campus, I answered my phone only to hear Yeboah's voice on the other line. It was a complete surprise, and for a split second I did not feel so far away from a place that I missed very much. We chatted briefly, and he asked what I had been up too. I talked about my classes and studying, and inquired about his day's activities- he had just gotten back from watching the elephants take their morning swim in the watering hole with a group of tourists from Germany. Oh how I envied him.
When I checked my voice mail from today's call, it was from a member of the family I visited in Sokode- the Adinkra's. Below is a photograph taken from the Durbar that the entire village of Sokode threw for our class. These kids were constantly wanting to be near us, pose for pictures, wear our sunglasses, and just observe us. It was one of my favorite days of the time I spent there.
